New Blog Post - What's Your ADHD Halloween Monster?

It’s Halloween Today!

And it’s a fifth Thursday.

I thought I’d bring you a something a little fun.

What Is Your (or Your Child’s) Halloween Monster?

Count Clockula – Vampire Time Blindness

  • Like the infamous Count Dracula, Count Clockula is always in the dark when it comes to time. ADHDers often struggle with time blindness and often have no idea of how much time has passed.

Whirlworlf – Emotional Dysregulation Werewolf

  • The Whirlwolf is calm one moment, and then in a whirlwind of intense emotions the very next minute. Like werewolves who suddenly transform during a full moon, emotional dysregulation in ADHDers can cause intense emotions to rise quickly and seeminly out of nowhere, leading to outbursts and frustration.  Their “full moon” is stress or frustration.

Ghastly Ghost – The Vanishing Ghost

  • Just like a ghost that vanishes and reappears, The Vanishing mind sneaks in and out, causing important tasks and names to disappear. Similarly ADHDers often experience moments of “forgetfulness” and important details slip away as if they never existed.

Mummified Mind – Task Paralysis

  • Like a mummy trapped in bandages, task paralysis in ADHD can leave someone feeling stuck and unable to move forward, even when they want to. The Mummified Mind feels wrapped in layers of indecision and inertia, making it hard to break free and start tasks – even though you really want to.

Rattlebones – The Skeleton of Restlessness

  • Rattlebones is always on the move, never likes sitting still, and is constantly rattling around or shifting their bones. ADHDers often feel this constant rattling need to fidget, shift, or move.

mad scientist

Dr. Focusstein – Hyperfocus Mad Scientiest

  • Similarly to Dr. Frankenstein, Dr. Focusstein becomes completely absorbed ina  project or idea. They lose track of time and everything else.  For ADHDers, hyperfocus can turn you into a mad scientist, oblivious to what’s around you as you get completely immersed.

The Fogbringer – Zombie Brain Frog

  • The Fogbringer drags you into a lazy, hazy, zombie-like state where a clear mind is lost and even the simplest of tasks seem impossible.  When ADHD brain fog sets in, its like moving through the day as if you are a zombie – slow and unfocussed.
